welcome to the pizza

more pictures, you’re saying. i know. these are shots of the food in the forodhani gardens in zanzibar. every night vendors prop up tables, light up all manner of charcoal stoves, and line up their wares – tuna, snapper, shark, marlin, barracuda, kingfish, calamari, lobster, crab, shrimp, octopus, mussels, all on kebabs with veggies, chapatis, naan, samosas, falafel, french fries, zanzibar pizza (egg, meat, onions, and hot sauce mixed and wrapped in a thin dough then fried and flipped like a pancake), mangoes, pineapple and watermelon slices, and sugar-cane juice. all cheap and fresh (we hope). tourists and residents alike sit with paper plates loaded, on benches or in the grass ,watching passers-by and recounting the day’s antics. a festive yet chill way to wrap up a day in zanzibar.
